The arraignment of the driver who hit our teammate MaryAnn Levenson is scheduled for January 30, 2007 at 9:00 a.m. at the San Mateo County Court, 400 County Center, Redwood City. (Call 650-363-4302 and give court case # SF349210/name=Sorensen to confirm.) We need as many people as possible to be present to show our support for MaryAnn and cyclists in general. This is important so that the Judge will understand the extent of the community outrage over yet another one of our cyclists being hit by an allegedly impaired driver. If possible, wear something that identifies you as a cyclist (part of your kit or a jersey) so that the Judge and the Public Defender and District Attorney will know that you are there as a concerned cyclist.
If you can't make it to the arraignment, please write a letter to the District Attorney James P. Fox at the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office, 400 County Center, 3rd Floor, Redwood City, CA 94063(650) 363-4636 letting him know that you are a concerned cyclist and that as a member of the cycling community, you would like to see this case receive the justice it deserves.
The Metromint Cycling team would like to personally thank Barney Lim who was one of the cyclists who stopped at the scene to assist MaryAnn. Barney was riding right behind MaryAnn and not more than 50 feet away when she was hit and plowed over by the red pickup on Dec 23. He stopped and attended to her while others called 911. He said that "It was an immediate relief to see her breathing and conscious but it was also obvious that she suffered a lot of trauma. It was awful and horrible to witness. I am so glad to hear that she survived. She is one tough survivor." Thank you for stopping Barney!
