On January 21-23, the riders of McGuire Cycling found themselves in a beautiful patch of mountainous countryside where they got miles on their bikes, had skills clinics from McGuire / Langdale Pro team members, and most importantly, bonded by firelight while making s'mores.
With many new members joining the team this season, the serene environment of the KOA Cloverdale campground provided the perfect backdrop to relax and get acquainted. Several two-to-four person cabins surrounding a lake proved to be comfortable and warm, with a meeting hall and kitchen suitable sized for our 40+ person group.
The group rides, both fast and slow paced, went through the breathtaking hills nearby, or through the valley near Healdsburg. On Saturday, the Pro team members ran the finest skills clinic with a long, in-depth Q&A session. No one will forget Eric Saunders describing vocal commands to use for lead outs: "...Because 'Up' sounds like 'Up', and 'Down' sounds like 'Down'!"
Based on the success of this training camp, it is likely that the team has created an annual tradition.
